During your training
will we teach you how to file, open, and close
a VFR flight Plan.
We will not require you to actually do this when
flying solo. There is typically a lot going on
and we do not feel the added step is warranted
as it introduces another "distraction"
in our already busy Class C airspace. Also, your
supervising CFI will know where you are during
you solo flying and will often ask you to "check
in" upon reaching your solo destinations
(or will be following your progress online).
However, please remember that filing a VFR flight
plan is a VERY USEFUL TOOL when actually flying
VFR cross country flights and help to maximize
safety!

Flight Service Stations planned transition to
an ICAO only format for domestic filers has
been delayed. When completed, FSS will no longer
accept the Domestic or NAS format flight plan.
Once an updated timeline is available, it will
be published on the FAA's site. The following

How to file
your flight plan (domestic or international)

After gathering
the appropriate information for FAA Form 7233-4,
or FAA Form 7233-1, you may use any of the following
means to file your flight plan:
