After Your First Solo:
You will have
AT LEAST ONE more "supervised solo," before going to the
practice area for a "local solo"
(your second supervised solo will
be the same format to your first solo)
Every Student is different, and some
may "require" extra supervised solos
(however, remember that traffic pattern
work is never "easy" and we want to minimize practice
landings without an instructor's supervision)
Local Solo:
A "Local Solo" is when
the student leaves the airport for a Practice Area (north or south),
and returns to KISP for single full stop landing
There should be at least TWO supervised
solos, before a Local Solo
Basically, you are going to "Burn
a hole in the sky" or "Enjoy the view and the fact that
you are on your own"
There is NO requirement for you to
practice maneuvers on your own
(without a CFI, there is one less
set of eyes scanning for traffic in our busy airspace and practice
areas)
Flexibility is Very Important to help you efficiently
complete your solo requirements!
Depending upon how your individual
training has progressed, there are various ways to move forward
The key thing to remember, you will
need 10 hours of total solo time, and of that time, at least 5 hours
must be solo cross country
Ideally, after you have accumulated
4 hours of solo time, you will be ready to start your solo cross
country time
Be prepared for multiple options
each time you schedule a lesson to allow flexibility for changing
weather conditions!
A "Flexible
Mindset" will help to make your overall skills better and give
you even more confidence when the weather is finally right for you
to add to your solo time!
Keep
your Lessons Regular, your Skills Sharp, and stay "Solo Ready"
Keep moving forward with other areas
of required training, such as:
Class D operations (KBDR - KFOK) |
Cross Country training |
Uncontrolled Field Operations (KHWV) |
Lost & Divert Procedures |
Simulated IFR |
Short & Soft-field take offs
and landings |
VOR work |
Do not "wait for perfect conditions"
for another solo opportunity
(This could potentially lead to an
extended gap, which will cause you to regress and not be "solo
ready")
