Introduction & Objectives:
....
In practicality, cross-country flying is the main objective of real world flying. In this stage of your training, you will learn how to plan and execute cross-country flights.
.

.
You can learn more about the New Concepts introduced in the section by reading chapter 16 of the FAA's Pilot Handbook.
.

.
FAA definition: Cross-County Flights are to an airport at least 50nm from your departure.
.
FAA requirement: At least 5 of the 10 hours of required solo time, must be Solo Cross-Country time.
.

"Classic" Training Schedule:
....
Typically, cross country training begins after the first supervised solo has been completed, or even after the student has a few local solo flights. However, with our "challenging" weather here on Long Island, we often begin cross country training before your first solo. This can help to keep your training progressing, while you are waiting for ideal weather conditions for a first solo flight.
.

Remember, before you go on your first actual cross country training flight you will need to be introduced to many new topics:

 •
Class D operations (KBDR - KFOK)

 •
Uncontrolled Field Operations (KHWV)

 •
Simulated IFR

 •
VOR work

 •
Lost & Divert Procedures

 •
Short & Soft-field take offs and landings
